The Buried Treasure

Once upon a long time ago in the here and now there was a distant land just next door where a rich and wise man decided to pass on some of his wealth to his two sons. Concerned, in case his bounty robbed them of the virtues of application and industry, he devised an ingenious plan. Calling them together he gave to each son adjoining vineyards of equal size and told them that somewhere, buried in each plot, was a secret that would keep them in comfort for the rest of their days.

Both sons thank their father profusely and the next day they began the process of setting up home on their extensive estates. Once that was done one son sat down and began praying to the Gods of good fortune to reveal to him, in a dream, the whereabouts of the secret hidden by his father. Each day he entreated the Gods and added ritual upon ritual in an effort to secure their favour, all without result. He engaged mystics, diviners and soothsayers from far and near to help locate the concealed mystery, but without success of any sort.

Meanwhile, his brother had engaged a few good friends and a supply of tools. Together they dug over the entire vineyard. While they did not find any secrets buried there the vines flourished as a result and their efforts yielded a greatly increased harvest for many years.
