The Tower

Once upon a time many years ago in the here and now there was a far away land that's just next door where a bunch of tiny frogs arranged a competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. The word had spread about the race and a big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the contest and cheer on the runners.

The race began, but no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You heard statements such as: "Oh, that’s WAY too difficult! They will NEVER make it to the top."
 

Or: "Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!"
 

Or: “They must be mad. It’s a wasted effort!”

One by one the tiny frogs began collapsing. One after the other they slowed and stopped, except for a few who, just past halfway, seemed to gather fresh impetus and climbed even higher with renewed vigour.

The crowd, far below, continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!" and, sure enough, even more of the tiny frogs got tired and gave up. Eventually everyone had given up climbing the tower except for one tiny frog. This tiny frog continued higher and higher and higher....this one wouldn't give up!

Finally, after one last, enormous effort, it reached the top! It was the only one.

When the prize was presented everybody cheered, especially the tiny frogs who had found the challenge too hard. With the ceremony over they all gathered round the victor, eager to know how this one frog managed to do it. A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the top of the tower? But the tiny frog made no answer — for the winner was deaf.
